David S. Marcus, CPA
David is the founding Partner of Marcus & Company LLP, an accounting firm specializing in business and asset valuations, litigation support, forensic accounting and consulting services. During his forty year professional career, he served three years with a big accounting firm. He has been employed by a Fortune 500 construction firm as Manager of Financial Statement and Systems and was Chief Financial Officer of a New England manufacturing firm. Re-entering public accounting at that point, he became a partner in a regional accounting firm employing a staff of twenty. In 1984, he established his own firm specializing in financial and management consulting and investigative accounting. He has direct and varied experience in financial management, inclusive of relationships with banks, factors and other financial institutions, as well as budgets, taxation, cash flow analysis and auditing.During the last decade, he has been retained in various matters including, but not limited to, the valuation of closely-held businesses, including but not limited to the largest closely held title company in the United States, and the gathering of financial evidence in adversary proceedings. Specifically, we have prepared valuations for gift and estate tax purposes, corporate succession planning, derivative actions, divorce proceedings as well as lost earnings computations. He has been qualified as an expert witness in New York, Kings, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Supreme Courts.
Simon Chin, CPA/ABV
Simon is a Partner with Marcus & Company LLP, an accounting firm specializing in forensic and valuation services. Since 1996, Mr. Chin has performed financial analysis to assist the firm in engagements involving business valuations, investigative accounting, shareholder disputes, insurance claims, economic damages, lost profits calculations, embezzlement and enhanced earnings calculations, including engagements wherein Marcus & Company LLP has been court appointed as financial experts to provide expert testimony. Valuations are performed for matrimonial purposes and equitable distribution, mergers and acquisitions, estate and gift taxes, recapitalization, stockholders’ / partnership agreements, dissenting shareholder actions, shareholder oppression and corporate dissolution. Following his qualification as a certified public accountant, Mr. Chin has completed training and continuing education in the area of forensic accounting and business valuation, including courses conducted by the American Society of Appraisers, New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Foundation for Accounting Education. He is the holder of the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) credential of the AICPA.In addition to his experience as a certified public accountant, including business valuation, litigation support, accounting, tax advisory and audit services, Mr. Chin has provided expert testimony in New York State Supreme Court.
May 10, 2010: The New York Law Journal published a Nassau County Decision, wherein The Court noted this matrimonial litigation could best be summed up as "chutzpah..." The Decision also referred to David Marcus, the expert witness, as a "respected evaluator."
December 14, 2017: The Long Island Business News recognized financial professionals for their outstanding performance as stewards of Long Island’s corporations, government and nonprofit organizations. Simon Chin was honored as a Top Financial Executive, and was highlighted for his work in business valuation, forensic accounting and litigation support.
